  1. Nathan: For young conservatives in rural areas or small towns, I think “building a winning team of supporters” is the biggest obstacle.

    Unless you are in a metro area with a dedicated cadre of YRs or business contacts, it is very hard to put together a GOTV team.

    In commissioner races or even state legislature constests, lots of folks don’t understand the multifaceted aspects of the office at hand.

    The challenge is to craft a message that resonates with younger voters (under 40 for example) and motivates them to care about the contest and dedicate some of their precious time beyond work, family, golf, the beach, etc.

    Would you say that the GOP has an organizational disadvantage in rural areas, or do the Dems face the same issue? I’m wondering about this since many campaigns rely on young volunteers — and the Republican Party has not done well at attracting young voters.

    Do you know of any positive stories or case studies of rural Republicans winning over young voters and building a winning team of supporters?
